Sleepover...Minus the sleep

Our very, very good friends Ethan, Rachel, and their mommy Lisa came over tonight. Since both of our husbands are out of town this week, we thought it would be a great idea to have a sleepover! We have been planning it for, literally, months.

The plan was to have dinner (something exciting that we don't get to eat very often). Then we'd get the kids to bed and watch a fun movie, eat tons of junk food, and then maybe work into the night on our scrapbooks.

Ah, the best laid plans...

A couple of days ago, we realized that we can't possibly have a sleepover. We have LITTLE kids. There is no way they would go to sleep as soon as we asked them to without a peep, especially with friends right there! There was no reason to believe that they would. We would probably spend our movie and scrapbooking time running back and forth between bedrooms quieting children and soothing babies. What were we thinking?!
We decided that a sleepover would probably end up being more stress than fun, so we turned it into an "Almost Sleepover", festivities ending promptly at 8 p.m. Wild and crazy kids.
(If you got that reference then you are probably about as old as I am, and just as pathetic).

Anyway, we had a great time. The kids ate chicken nuggets and green beans. The moms had takeout from Pei Wei.

(One of the perks of having little kids is that they don't realize when they're getting gypped!)

We had a great time just chatting and watching the kids play. As fate would have it, "A Charlie Brown Christmas" made it's seasonal debut on this very night! What a great way to end the evening.

Thanks, Starrs, for coming over to entertain us!

Here are some pictures of the evening's activities:

Eating in the "big" chairs

The cookie dough didn't seem to make it to the cookie sheet. Yes, while the children were preoccupied, we did eat some by the spoonful! At least one part of the original plan stuck.

There was a commercial about Car Insurance. Lauryn kept saying "car insurance" and they both burst into giggles. That's normal, right?

Sweet babies in their pj's!

I think someday we'll have a real sleepover...maybe in 10 years??? Actually, I'm thinking there's a conference in Vegas - a mom's conference - this time next year that we'll need to be at. We had SO MUCH FUN last night. Thanks for having us over. I'm just loving this right up the road thing.
