We had a great Thanksgiving holiday. We were able to go to both grandparents' houses and spend time with family. One of the highlights for us (or maybe just me!) was driving home Thursday night in the snow! It wasn't just flurries. There were big, fat flakes falling on our windshield as we drove. It definitely put us in the Christmas spirit!
While at my parents' house, we took the girls for a golf cart ride. Mostly we wanted to enjoy the COLD weather! My dad recently put doors on their golf cart, so we turned on the heater and were able to stay pretty warm. Lauryn always asks to see the ducks on our golf cart rides. There are several ponds full of ducks during the year. Of course now it's too cold (or so I thought), so I told her the ducks have all gone south and wouldn't be at the ponds today.
As soon as we approached the first pond, she started squealing, "There are the ducks! I told you they'd be here!!"
Sure enough, a couple of ducks were wandering around next to the water. I guess that was my cue that I should have kept my mouth shut. And to do some research on ducks and their migratory patterns as soon as possible.
Anyway, Lauryn was admiring the ducks and commenting on how much fun they are having on the water. Then she says, "Awwww...I wish I could be a duck. Why can't I do that?"
I explained to her that God didn't create her to be a duck. He wanted her to be a person.
She answered with, "Awwww...I should have TOLD Him!"
Don't you hate it when you think of all the things you should have said after the fact....
