Feasting

Today was Lauryn's (and Allison's) Thanksgiving Feast at school. B was able to come and have lunch with us, and we had a great time!

I signed up to bring a dessert. Typically this would involve making a run to Target the night before to pick up some of their fabulous M&M cookies in the bakery. If I'm really feeling domestic, I might buy a cookie mix and whip up a batch the night before.

This is why the following picture will make you think I have possibly lost my mind. I made these. In my kitchen. Using the stove and real cooking utensils. Someone gave me the idea and basically said that you can't have a last name like ours and NOT make these cookies for Thanksgiving. Not just any old dessert would do. So, behold...the Pilgrim Hats.

So I made them. I will not make them again. End of story. The marshmallows were all sticky, I broke a sweat from the heat of the stove, and I got melted chocolate all over every conceivable hard surface within the general vicinity of the kitchen. The chocolate was too hot and melted the marshmallows, so most of them were sort of leaning to one side. Not quite the look I was going for.

But these things were a HIT! Kids were snatching them up left and right. I even saw someone's dad enjoying the chocolate covered goodness with a boyish grin and a little twinkle in his eye. Well worth the agonizing effort. But I can not emphasize this enough...I will never make them again. For the record.

Did I mention that Allie's little class had their own feast, too?! Each class had a set time frame for lunch. They were first at 10:45 a.m. I walked into the auditorium to find my "baby" sitting in a big person's chair with her little Thanksgiving feast in front of her. My heart melted and I had to fight a few tears. She just looked so big. Unfortunately for her, she was not feeling the love. She got 4 shots yesterday and the dr. said she is getting all her molars plus two other teeth right now. She's not really into eating since her mouth is probably throbbing in pain! My poor baby!

OMG...I'm not sure I have ever been more impressed with your domesticity (if that's not a real word, just pretend like it is). And I'm cracking up that you'll never make them again. When Lauryn is about 15 and reading through these "old" posts she'll come across this and beg you to make some more. Well, we'll probably all have maids and chefs by then so you can just delegate the task. :) Actually, I think you should frame the picture and put it up in your kitchen.
