Overachievers

If they were giving out awards for the biggest Christmas Overachievers, we would probably win this year. Here it is, still DAYS before Thanksgiving, and we already put up our Christmas tree. With ornaments. And we even put the stocking holders on the mantle. We have yet to find the box with the "stonkings" (as Lauryn calls them), so as of now it's just the little holders. But it is by far the earliest we have ever even thought of decorating for Christmas.

We moved in August, and we gave away our tree before the move. We discovered that Garden Ridge was having a sale on all Christmas Trees, so we took the opportunity to get a fancy new one. A pre-lit one. Because our other tree was NOT pre-lit. It was the cause of many a holiday squabble as we struggled to wind those stupid strands of lights every year. Inevitably one section of the tree would have more lights than the other. And how in the world do they get tangled into knots when we are so meticulous in winding them back up up neatly and carefully each year??
Anyway, the girls had a great time helping to decorate the tree. Of course it was Allie's first time to participate. I think last year she just watched from the corner of her room, sitting in her bouncer. Mostly she just started at the ceiling while we hung ornaments, so this was a definite improvement from her previous tree decorating experience.
I attempted to have the girls dress in a somewhat "festive" nature. I put Allison in green, and hoped to dress Lauryn in something red. Just because I'm kind of obsessive over pictures and "staged" photo ops.
Of course when I suggested to Lauryn that she wear something red, you would have thought I just asked her to eat the ornaments. Needless to say, it was a battle I was clearly not going to win. That is why she is wearing a summer dress in November. My wonderful husband gently reminded me that it was just a picture. And this is what the girls looked like in 2007. My three year old, who would gladly suffer frostbite in arctic temperatures if it meant she could wear a dress that day, was dressed as she usually is at some point each day. He had a point. Gosh, I hate it when he's right. Here are some pictures from the fun event.
