Right before bath time last night, we were in Allison's room watching the girls play. Allison is a bit more adventurous than Lauryn ever was. She loves to climb. And she's fast.
Before we realized what was happening, Allie somehow launched herself straight into her crib, slamming her head against the side on the way down.
I ran to pick her up, and she could barely catch her breath. I knew it was bad, so we went straight to the kitchen for some ice.
Somewhere between her bedroom and the kitchen, the biggest bump I've ever seen popped up on her head. I am not exaggerating when I say that it looked like a golf ball was under her skin.
At this point, it was clear I was not meant to be a nurse or any sort of medical professional. I thought I was going to pass out, so B had to take over. After about 5 minutes we decided to take her to the ER to have it checked out. I was not about to mess with a head injury, and since it is the first for us (at least of this severity) neither of us knew what to expect.
Unfortunately, in the midst of all the commotion, I forgot to take a picture. I don't know what I was thinking, but the blog just wasn't on my mind at the time. Imagine the blogging drama that would have ensued! An initial picture of the "golf ball", play by play updates as calls came in from B at the ER, and a dramatic conclusion to the "Head Trauma Drama".
I'm sure that lapse in judgement is what will prevent me from being awarded this. I will have to think more clearly next time and be sure to get my priorities straight.
I did get a picture of the injury this morning.

Clearly, she's not traumatized.

Unlike her mother.
The bump is gone now, and it's just a bruise and a big scrape.
Last night the doctor said she was fine, and gave us a list of what to watch for in case of concussion, etc. They did recommend we check on her every two hours during the night to see if she was ok. So I set the alarm, and every two hours I went in her room to rub her face or touch her hand. She would turn over or stir around every time, so I knew she was fine.
Hopefully your evening was a lot less eventful!

Poor baby! How traumatic. At least Brent let you take her in. JD would have said..."she's fine"! I try to trust him now that he is a PA...
Give her a big kiss for me! :)
ahhh..memories. hazel bumped her head on a sharp corner in our last apt. and earned herself a trip to the er (since i literally could see it growing as i watched in a panic). of course, it really helped my anxiety attack when they said "i think we should do a cat scan"
even with this bump on her head, she looks beautiful!
