And we're off!

Tonight was Kindergarten Round-up at Lauryn's school! It was information overload for me, but exactly what I needed. I only teared up once (ok, twice) but not in front of Lauryn. And luckily it didn't progress into anything obnoxious.
The parents sat in the cafeteria and all of the kids went off with the teachers to look at the classrooms and do some activities. All I got out of Lauryn was that they sang songs and she met a new friend but doesn't know her name. Must have been a strong connection!
I'm feeling good about next year. The teachers seemed really nice and the principal was genuine and enthusiastic. We heard lots about their curriculum and methods of instruction (the teacher in me was hanging on every word...and it was all good information!) and were given an overview of the kindergarten schedule. We also ordered school supplies!
Lauryn was a little overwhelmed by the number of kids and parents packed into the cafeteria . I was so proud of her when she walked up with all the other kids to follow the teachers back to the classrooms. She wasn't crying and actually smiled and waved as she walked by! She did say she had a few tears later on, but one of the teachers came over to her and held her hand. She appears to be accepting of the whole thing.
I'm not certain there won't be tears when school starts, but I'm so glad she was able to have this opportunity to get her feet wet. I can't believe we're actually doing it! I've had her 24/7 for five years, so it's difficult to think about giving her over to someone else for the majority of her day, every day. I know she's ready, though, and she will thrive.

She's SO ready. She's gonna be smarter than all the people in that class. :) I know it's tough. I have some pictures of Owen's first day that can still make me cry if I look at them.

I just love that little angel. She was so proud last night! I'm going to need you to be my support when we're going through this next year.
