Change

This is what the girls looked like when they woke up this morning and asked who won the election.

Ironically, those expressions are not far from my own as I tortured myself with election coverage the night before.

I don't intend to use this blog as a political forum (although once I get going I'm sure I'll have to go back and edit. A lot.)

Besides, this is a family blog centered around my children. The thoughts in my head today aren't exactly family friendly. Although I have an unbelievable amount to say about this outcome, it would serve no purpose here. But I am thankful for the fact that I could write every single feeling and emotion I'm having right now if I wanted to. We are fortunate to have the gift of free speech in this country (well...at least for now).

I have a secret passion for politics. It all began in 2000 and it hasn't let up. It usually doesn't come out until election year and then I pretty much have a hard time thinking about anything else. It has intensified now that we have children and the decisions we make will affect them.

In fact, from day one we've been raising the girls right :)

Brent and I went on a church retreat last weekend. It was amazing. It provided much needed rest and clarity, and I'm realizing now more than ever that God is faithful.

More than one person said to me yesterday that this election was no surprise to God. I believe that. He has a plan and a purpose for all of our lives.

A friend shared these verses with me and it has given me great hope in the past 24 hours.

Hebrews 12:28 We are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken. Let us be thankful.

Psalm 97:9 For you, O LORD, are most high over all the earth.

Psalm 97:10 He preserves the lives of his saints; he delivers them from the hand of the wicked.

We are praying for our country. And we are praying for our president elect. Praying that God will change his heart, and that he would look to God and His word when making decisions as he faces an incredibly difficult journey ahead.

I hope you will do the same.
