We have a little "creek" a few blocks away from our house. I call it a creek for lack of a better term. Really it just looks like a big drainage ditch filled with weeds. We drive past it every time we take a particular road home. Usually there is little to no water in it, but that doesn't stop Lauryn from asking EVERY single time we pass it if there are ducks in there.
And obviously every time the answer is no, but she is keeping hope alive that one day we'll see a little family of ducks waddle by.
Since it has been so cold (highs in the 30's !!!) we've been bundling up every time we leave the house. I guess that made her think of those "ducks" as we drove past the creek recently.
L: "Mommy, it's so cold!"
M: "Yes, it is! It's winter time so we get very cold weather."
L: "What about the ducks? Are they cold?"
M: "No, they have all those feathers to keep them warm. "(Not wanting to get into the whole "flying south for winter" discussion, I took the easy way out.)
L: "Oh, but they need jackets, too. They should all have little duckie jackets."
I will do almost anything for my kids, but I draw the line at pulling out my sewing machine and making little duckie jackets for random ducks we don't even know.
...But they would be kind of cute, wouldn't they?! I'm just saying....
