I think Lauryn's a pretty smart kid. She can sound out words, spells words "phonetically", and has a memory like you've never seen.
We were driving to the store the other day and she started reciting one of our books, "Little Bunny's Bedtime". We read it to Allison all the time (it's one of her favorites) and Lauryn knows it word for word.
She started with the first line, "Ahhhhh. Peace and quiet at last", said Mrs. Rabbit. "All of my children are tucked snugly into bed."....
She continued on until she recited every single page.
So, she's pretty smart and I really am not worried about her going to kindergarten. I know we still have a year (thank goodness!) but the teacher in me sometimes starts to panic. I want to be sure and cover all our bases.
So a while back I wondered to myself if she understood "opposites". I made up a game and told her I would give her a word and she was supposed to tell me what the opposite was.
It was pretty clear after the first one or two that this is a skill worth focusing on.
Me: Ok, what's the opposite of fast?
L: RUN!
Me: Um. Ok, let's try another one. What's the opposite of tall?
L: Uhh...TREE!!
Me: Ok, here's a good one. You'll get this one. What's the opposite of old?
L: Thinking hard for a minute, then suddenly blurts out, "Go To HEAVEN!!!!"
At least her teacher will be impressed that she can recite the Pledge of Allegiance without missing a beat.

Since you are a teacher....you should be aware that they are probably going to just bump her right up to first grade. She is going to be SOOOO ahead.
so cute! Opposites seem like a hard concept to grasp...
