As much as I tried to deny it, my baby girl's birthday arrived. Allie turned 5 years old and there was nothing I could do about it! She is beyond thrilled. She grinned ear to ear whenever we mentioned the fact that she was now officially five years old. Just like every year, I sit and marvel at the fact that the years pass by so quickly. Someone told me (or maybe I read it somewhere) that the days are long, but the years are short. I can't think of anything more true.
Here's my big girl getting ready to go out for her birthday dinner! She chose Firehouse Subs, and we were just thankful that it wasn't McDonald's, which was a very real concern of ours : )
We started the day off right with some birthday donuts.
And then some presents!
Daddy took the day off and Mimi drove to our house for the day to join us at the water park. Allie was overjoyed! Spending the day at the water park is her idea of the best. day. ever.
I always struggle with finding a way to put into words what it means when one of my children has a birthday. It always takes me back to that day when our lives changed forever. I can't even remember a life without you, Allie! You make us laugh daily and fill our house with joy. Your sister is your best friend and you have spent the entire summer playing together. Whether it is Barbies, Polly Pockets, baby dolls, or the Wii...you don't care what you play as long as you can be with her. Nothing could make my heart happier. You are starting a new adventure in just a little over a week. You becoming a kindergartner has been as hard on me as I imagined it would. Right now you have me guessing as to how you will actually react on that first day. I guess we will find out soon enough. I know that your teacher is blessed to have you in her classroom for an entire year. You are smart, polite, and caring. You have a sensitive heart and a gentle spirit.
I recently saw a sign on a website that said, "Let her sleep. For when she wakes she will move mountains." I have no doubt in my mind that this is true for you. I can't wait to see what God has planned for your life. I look forward to watching you grow and learn and become the person you were meant to be. What a blessing it is for us to watch it all! We love you beyond words and are so thankful for you. We love you baby girl!
And now for our birthday tradition...
