Olympics 2020, here we come

Yesterday Lauryn started her "new" gymnastics class. They moved her up to the next level, so she kept saying she was excited to be in the "big girl" class.

I think she had her heart set on joining the teenagers in the back of the gym. They're always there when we go to class, flying around the bars and flipping on the balance beam.

I explained to her that she wasn't quite old enough to be with that group. So she settled for doing some somersaults on the mat.

Both girls were really into the Olympics this year. We enjoyed watching diving (Allison shouted, "COOL!!" after each and every dive!), but gymnastics was our favorite.

The girls always ended up rolling around on pillows, trying to imitate the things that Shawn and Nastia were doing on tv. And Lauryn would end the evening pretending that she was Shawn and would even give an acceptance speech after getting her medal.

Here's Lauryn after class yesterday. Their air conditioning wasn't working, so you can imagine what it felt (and smelled) like in that gym crammed with 50 girls ages 4-18. And their parents.

And here she is doing her handstand. According to Lauryn, she is "very good with it."

I can't wait to see how she grows and improves over time. Right now she loves it, so hopefully we'll stick with it for a while!

Avery was really into it too. After she saw the floor routine, she said, "Me do it!" She is REALLY good at the somersault too! I'm thinking maybe next year....

Too cute! We are FINALLY signed up to get started in gymnastics there this month, but I don't think they'll be in the same class. We'll be in the Monday 10a starting after Labor Day (next week we're going on Thurs night to "try"). Let's try to play soon!!!
