We celebrated Independence Day by going to our very first 4th of July parade! We met our friends M&P and E&R at the parade and had a pretty good spot. We got there early and set up under a tree, so we had shade in case it did end up getting to 100 degrees by 10 a.m. (and I'm pretty sure that's not far from the truth). By the end of the parade I was prepared to go home and google "heat stroke" so I could confirm my self-diagnosis. The girls were troopers, and managed to smile in spite of the sweat pouring down their faces.
Here's a picture summary of our fun weekend!
Starting the day off right...enjoying donuts while waiting for the parade to begin!

MMmmmm...sugar....good!

Not sure which is sweeter, her or the donuts (but I think she has the lead)

Once we finished eating, we realized we still had an hour before start time. Now what?

Ready to go!

Um, I thought you said there would be a parade here today??

Finally the parade begins!

She wasn't quite sure about the group of Elvis motorcyclists. She's not the only one.

Can we go back to the part where we were eating donuts in the shade?

There was one benefit setting up camp next to the 7-Eleven.

Refueling

Can we go to the pool now?

Food, shade, and Mommy's lap. NOW it's a celebration!

Lauryn really held out. It wasn't until the last 10 minutes or so before she really started looking miserable!

The next evening we went to an outdoor shopping mall to see a fireworks show. While we waited, the girls busied themselves picking rose petals from the bushes lining the sidewalks. (Yeah, probably not the best thing to let them do, but when it's 2 hours past bedtime you do what you have to do to entertain the troops).
Remember how my children are different in many ways? Let me present you with example #74:
Lauryn held her rose petals in a small little pile in the palm of her hand. She was going to take them home and put them in her "collection" (although I'm still not sure which "collection" that would be in reference to.)

Allison did some petal picking of her own.

Which unfortunately just resulted in senseless rose petal casualties. We'll never know what became of them as we left to go watch the show soon after.

I hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend! We are so thankful for our Independence and for the men and women who sacrifice for all of us to keep it that way.

Looks like a fun and busy weekend!! :)
It looks like you guys had a great time! I think Amiya and Lauryn are kindred spirits and Emmy and Allison are very much alike. I was laughing when I read the part about the rose petals because I can so see my girls being the same way.
Oh my gosh- that first picture of Lauryn....what an angel. But the second one where she looks ticked off is my favorite.
Looks like you guys celebrated your eyeballs off. Fun times.
I'm obviously a little behind because I'm just now reading this - love the pics. We had a great time with you guys...I think we'll make it a tradition. :) And the rose petal pictures and awesome...at least she wasn't eating them!
I, too, love when I watch the girls making memories. We did alot of that while at my parents for the week (you'll see once I FINALLY catch up on my blogging).
Let's reschedule our playdate, but don't hate me if it's August before we see you. Crazy in Boergerland!
