So close, yet so far away

Lauryn had her last swimming lesson on Monday! She was so excited about getting a t-shirt and a ribbon.

We walked in to find that her teacher wasn't there. She had apparently gone into labor early and was about to give birth, so they figured it was best to call in a substitute for the day.

Whatever.

Seriously...we do love our teacher so I was sad to not be able to say goodbye to her. She has worked miracles for us and has really given Lauryn confidence in the water.

Lauryn did great at her last lesson.

She jumped in the water, swam about 5 feet to the steps, floated on her back, and begged to go down the slide.

She was so proud of herself, and we are proud of how far she has come.

At the very first lesson I was just thrilled that she put her ear in the water. Now here she is, swimming to the steps and holding her breath for up to 10 seconds.

So we went to the pool by my mom's house yesterday and decided to put the 20 weeks of swimming lessons to the test.

She eagerly put on her goggles and went down the steps into the pool.

Then she begged us not to let her go under.

When she accidentally tripped and put her face in the water she sobbed big crocodile tears, saying she forgot to hold her breath.

We bought goggles and little diving sticks (just like they use in class) so she could go under water and pick them up while she practiced holding her breath.

She threw them all in the water by the steps, and then picked them up with her feet.

This could be a long summer.

I'm just saying.
