Let the bike rides begin!

Texas weather is so strange. I was just saying to Brent the other day how I thought it had been a pretty mild May. Some days it was just in the low 70's and mornings were surprisingly cool.

Then this weekend arrived and brought the searing heat of the sun with it. I think it might be here to stay.

At least until mid-November.

When the rest of the country is wearing cute sweaters and sipping hot chocolate, we are still figuring out how many more weeks before it is really unacceptable to pull out the wading pool and put on our swimsuits.

So the weather is feeling summer-like, so we went on a family bike ride late Sunday afternoon. I really love doing this because the girls have so much fun! We first got the bike trailer when Allie was born and couldn't wait to use it. Of course we had to wait a couple months because she was born in August.

And you can't ride your bike here in August because the rubber on the tires sticks to the sidewalk and it just gets annoying.

So around that October we put the girls in the bike trailer for the first time. Lauryn was all of 2 1/2 and infant Allie was propped up next to her.

Those rides weren't quite as fun. Stopping every 3 minutes to lift your newborn's head up off her chest kind of cuts into the "workout" part of it.

Anyway, we ended up putting the trailer away until the next summer, and then those rides were much more fun.

But NOW...Allison is almost 2, so she "gets" it and just loves riding. She and Lauryn sit together and talk or sing. Occasionally I will move from behind the trailer and ride my bike next to Brent (who pulls the trailer on his bike...in case you had any doubts as to who had that job!)

As I move past, Allison will look out the trailer window at me with as much surprise as if she had just seen Santa fly by on his sleigh. So precious! And she does it every single time. You'd think she would start to remember that I was back there.

So Sunday the high was about 94 degrees. Can you tell!?
But they were sweet enough to pose while I took tons of pictures. They were just so stinkin' cute sitting there together!

And then they got over it and were pretty much done for the night.

They look so cute in the trailer. I wish I remembered how to ride a bike so I could do that with my girls. I think Emmy would just love that!

That second picture is what E&R look like the entire bike ride. It makes for an incredibly enjoyable ride. :)
