The "P" Word

"P"...as in "Pneumonia".

Does this look like a girl who has pneumonia? Yeah, I don't think so, either. So it was a pretty big shock when I took her to the doctor this morning for what I would have bet money was either strep throat or a sinus infection, only to find out later that the doctor's suspicions were right. Pneumonia.

She's been running a mild fever since Friday but yesterday, when it reached almost 104, I knew something was going to have to be done. She's also had a horrendous cough. But that always seems to happen any time she gets a cold, which is what I thought it was initially, until the high fever set in.

The crazy thing is that she isn't acting like she feels bad. Occasionally she'll say her head hurts or that she's tired. Other than that she has been playing and running around and pouting when I make her sit down and rest. She started on a strong antibiotic today and we'll do breathing treatments, so hopefully it will clear up quickly.

I have to say, she was such a big girl today. She had a strep test at the doctor (her second one in a month, and second one with a negative result) and she was so nervous, but she handled it well. Then when we went to the radiology building to have her x-ray done, I was told Allie couldn't come back with us. Obviously since I am only one person, someone was going to have to be flexible. The choices were for Lauryn to go back with the technician alone, or Allie was going to have to sit with the receptionist.

I think we can all guess which option we went with.

Lauryn was such a big girl and walked back without me. I was a nervous wreck for the entire 7 minutes (not sure why) but I was so thrilled to see her return with the technician...carrying two suckers. The tech told me Lauryn was "a big girl". Lauryn told me later that they had to do the x-ray twice because they cut off part of it the first time. I am so proud of her for doing something like that without me. That would not have happened a year ago.

So, I've been super busy with business lately (NOT complaining...just saying!) so on my kid-free days I sew the entire time until it's time to pick them up from school. So one night I needed to run a few errands that didn't get done during my alone time that day.

Now, when I'm home alone with the girls they pretty much just wander around trying to figure out what to do.

When Daddy's home alone with the girls, this is what takes place:

How am I supposed to compete with that??!

I so feel you on the competing with Dads. It's impossible. They must be at work all day plotting on what cool thing they can come up with to put us mothers to shame, and then as soon as they get home, they do it like it was something they just thought of. That's my theory anyway. I know, it's probably a little paranoid.
I can't believe L has pneumonia! Yikes. Hope she is all better soon. Back in the day we had pneumonia in our house and the infected people (I think Lindsey and my MOM?) had to be quarantined to a tent. I was jealous. That was the 80s though..I'm sure they don't do that anymore.

I hope that sweet little girl is better soon. And you're right, she's not matching the mental picture I had of a child with Pneumonia.

I love Meredith's theory about dads!! They always make it looks so easy. I swear as soon as Craig comes home, Hayden forgets all about who I am.
