First Day of School...Behind the Scenes

If you didn't see the "official" first day of school post, scroll down and read that one first.

Lauryn had a few tears at drop off (but she stopped quickly and had a GREAT rest of the day!) Not knowing how things would turn out, I had the picture in my head of her crying as I left her. It wasn't a great image and for the whole day I was a little sad/nervous/anxious.

Later I realized that maybe I was making too much out of it. Things could certainly be worse. I needed to be thankful for all of the good things that happened (Like her feeling better by Wednesday and NOT missing another day of school, for example. Or her being happy up until we walked to the classroom door instead of crying from the minute she woke up like she did last year.)

I think God wanted me to realize that, yes, things can always be worse. And I also love how He has a sense of humor.

Allie and I kept busy all day yesterday and didn't get back home until after we picked Lauryn up at 3:00. One of our errands involved running to store I love to call "my second home". I won't disclose the name of the store due to the pictures that will follow and fear of potential lawsuits. But I will say that it rhymes with BoAnn Fabrics.

It was raining. I was wearing foam for shoes (aka my favorite flip flops in the world). I was holding Allie and tyring not to get soaked. I walked into the store and realized that their floor mat was about two feet away from the door, revealing about two feet of slippery, wet tile in front of it.

So I slipped on it.

And then fell.

Hard.

While still holding an almost 40 pound child in my arms.

My knees took the brunt of the fall.
My elbows finished things off. (Those floor mats in the entrance are really rough and scratchy.)
And to top it off...I was wearing a skirt.
Oh, yes.
The good news is that Allie was completely unharmed (physically, anyway. She might be emotionally scarred seeing as how the whole thing scared the pants off of her.)
It was honestly mortifying to reassure the workers that yes, I was fine. Although a band-aid would be nice to help stop the blood from running down my arm. They were very accommodating and provided not one, but four band-aids. Thanks.
I love you, Lord. Thank you for reminding me not to take life too seriously. And that some things are just out of my control. I am more than happy to leave those things up to You...everything seems to work out better that way, anyway :)

I'm so sorry! But, funny we fell on the same day. My knee looks very similar to yours, and my 2nd toe looks even more like a tater tot (sp?) than it normally does. sigh. I'm glad no one saw (or heard) me fall down my tile stairs. Including my children since I let some expletives fly. But, although falling in public IS indeed VERY mortifying, at least Allie didn't start puking. God definitely has a sense of humor. For sure.

I don't think the picture really does your knee justice. Poor thing. Maybe you can ask for the security cam footage and post the fall on youtube!
