Today was another step for me in the quest to let my kids start growing up. As much as I want things to stay exactly as they are, time has proven that actually isn't a possibility.

I know - it's crazy!

So when one of Lauryn's best friends from school invited her to go with them to the Fort Worth Stock Show, I won't lie. I kind of panicked. My mind instantly went to those huge crowds and those huge buildings and I just couldn't imagine her there without me watching her every move!

I also couldn't imagine it because in my mind she still looks like this:

But she is growing up and we are building trust and confidence and blah blah blah. I don't like it, but it is inevitable. One day she will be all grown up. Time to face it. :)

I was proud of myself for not worrying all afternoon. It helped that Allie ran some errands with me, and then I worked on painting two bedrooms. Staying busy was a good idea :)

So later in the afternoon when her friend's mom texted me these pictures, I knew we had done the right thing. She had an absolute blast!

Love my big girl!

Oh my gosh. I remember when Avery went somewhere for the first time without me, I had those exact feelings! And, she was much younger. But, now, it's a little easier for me to say yes. But, I still worry the whole time, and give long lectures about strangers, and what to do if she gets lost, etc. Have you read Protecting the Gift by Gavin DeBecker? You totally should if you haven't!!
