Rocks and Music

Allie's school had a science fair last week. The kids had to bring in a collection of some sort. She has been "collecting" rocks for as long as she could say the word "rock", so we didn't have a hard time deciding on what she would bring! She loves to pick up rocks everywhere we go (the mall, Braum's parking lot, in front of the post office, etc.), so she just picked twelve of her favorites and we displayed them in an egg carton!

I had her make a poster and wanted her to tell me in her own words why she chose these particular rocks. She said, "I like my rocks because they look pretty". Well, why else?! She wrote the words and spelled her sentence all by herself...except for the title ("collection" is a little advanced! HA!)

Sweet girl :)

It was so cute to see so many different collections. There were several Barbie and princess collections on display (goodness knows we could have easily done one of those!) There were leaf collections, shell collections, bug collections (real bugs with pins through the middle of them, displayed on a poster board! No thank you!!) but I would have to say the most disturbing collection was the one featuring different dog and cat teeth.

Yes, you read that right. TEETH. Probably about 50 of them.

*shudder*

Anyway, it was so cute to see her find her collection in the science lab and run over to take a picture with it. She was so proud :)

In other news, Lauryn had her very first piano recital this weekend! She has been playing for about 3 months now and is doing soooo well! It's awesome to watch your kids as they grow and to see their natural talents develop. She played three songs: "Ode to Joy", "My Invention", and "Come See the Parade". She played them all by memory and didn't miss a note :)
Showtime! She didn't act nervous at all (that's not her music in front of her!)
