When school was over, we got in the car and headed straight to Grapevine. I had the girls' heavy winter coats in the car because, obviously, it is cold in the exhibit.
But to be truthful, what was the point in that? We live in Texas so clearly there's no real use for our heavy outerwear other than to make the occasional fashion statement. They only provide actual warmth when our temperatures hit highs in the 40's, which happens about four times a year. It was definitely going to be colder than that in the exhibit. And I heard or read that parkas were provided, so we left the coats in the car.
Good thing I was right about the parkas. They had plenty of them, and with good reason. It was NINE degrees inside the tent. I don't know that I've ever felt what nine degrees is like in my entire life. Clearly I didn't think it through when it came to our choice in shoes. My toes were frozen about two minutes into the exhibit.
The girls loved it! They never complained about the cold, although near the end I realized that the smile plastered on Allie's face was very possibly due to it being, quite literally, frozen in place. I felt the same way. At one point I tried to ask Brent a question and realized that my mouth would not move enough for me to form the words!
We enjoyed warming up at some little tables set up outside of the tent with some hot chocolate and a good movie...How the Grinch Stole Christmas, which was the theme of the entire exhibit. If you're in the area, I definitely recommend going! It's amazing to realize that everything you see is carved out of ice! So neat!

I loved how cute the girls looked in their little parkas! (Don't you love the look on Allie's face!? Nice.)
