I might have mentioned that the girls and I started a list of things we wanted to do this summer. The list has grown over the past weeks, but we've also done a great job of marking off lots of the activities on our wish list.
We've been wanting to visit this "dinosaur park" for quite a while. When the opportunity came up last weekend we figured we'd better take advantage of it. The summer has gone by so fast already, and I wanted to be sure we were able to squeeze this trip in before it was too late!
We picked up my parents on the way and were excited about a fun new adventure! I didn't know what to expect not having ever been to this particular state park. Pretty soon it became clear that wearing flip flops was not the best decision.
There were LOTS of dinosaur tracks, perfectly preserved, which was awesome. Unfortunately there wasn't a simple way of viewing them. Basically, we did a scaled down version of rock climbing to get to all the sites. Yeah.
And did I mention that it is hot? As in 103 degrees in the blazing sun with no shade in sight HOT? I did not expect the heat to be quite so overwhelming, and I didn't handle it well. The girls really did last much longer than I did, and whined much, much less.
We were brave. We tried to put a smile on our face.
But Allie and I are two peas in a pod. Sure, we smiled for the camera. But if it looks like I'm thinking, "Please just take the picture before I melt into a puddle, and by the way, is it normal to see these big black spots?" that's because it was what I was thinking.
"Cooling off" in the water doesn't help when the water feels like a bathtub.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to fully enjoy the trip due to the HOT, so we are definitely going back in the fall or early spring.
It was really neat to see the tracks, though, and to think that these creatures once walked in the very spot we were standing in. Amazing.

Can't wait to go back. In a different season.

103? No shade? I was at the park the other day at it was 80 with no shade, and I felt like I was going to pass out. seriously. I had to sit down in a tiny patch of shade under a very tiny tree. We lasted about 5 minutes more, and then went home. I could never live in TX again. I guess I am pregnant, but still.
Good to know - we will wait to go! Glad you still had some fun, though. Hoping the rest of your list includes relaxing by a pool. :)
