Almost 13 years ago my sweet husband took me to San Antonio for our one-year anniversary. Gosh, it almost seems like yesterday! In other ways, a lifetime ago.
What was that trip like? The details are fuzzy. I'm sure we ate some amazing Mexican food. I'm positive we didn't have to find a restroom at every turn. Most likely we took a leisurely stroll around the Riverwalk. But we probably didn't stop to look at each flower/rock/baby duck along the way.
Despite their reputation, I honestly love going on family vacations. Taking a trip with the girls is always such a blast! Not that I wouldn't give anything to go away on a trip with my hubby at any given moment. But when your kids are with you, the experience is so very different. I love watching them take in a new environment and seeing it all through their eyes.
We kicked off Spring Break 2013 with another trip to San Antonio - our second time there with the girls. We went for Spring Break a few years back and went to Sea World. This time we visited Fiesta Texas - a first for all of us. Lauryn gathered up all of her courage to ride one of the bigger roller coasters and was so excited that she did it. Allie let us all know that if she "didn't have a stomach, she'd ride EVERY one of these rides!"
On our way down we stopped here and took an incredible tour of underground caverns that are filled with stalactites and stalagmites, all of which began forming millions of years ago. It's almost too much to wrap your mind around!
We visited the Alamo!
Riverwalk fun! The weather was beautiful and we walked along the river every day of the trip.
While eating dinner the last night of our trip, this girl decided to leave one of her teeth in San Antonio!
Actually, we didn't leave it. It made the trip back home the next day. That night I was concerned because I wasn't sure if the tooth fairy would find her way to our hotel. Or if she was carrying any small bills.
Luckily our easy-going six year old was more than happy to wrap up the tooth and wait until we got home so she could put it in her tooth pillow. Didn't I tell you my kids are awesome!? :)
On the way home we took a different route and stopped in this little town.
We've had such a fun week, full of memories. Right now there are two pink lunchboxes glaring at me from the kitchen counter. Just a reminder that Spring Break is almost over and we'll be back to the routine of school and schedules. Tonight I'm so thankful for the blessing of our little family. And the fact that summer is just two months away :)
