This is the most I've blogged in months. Let's see if it lasts! I realized after I posted about not having any pictures for January that it isn't entirely true. I have several pictures, but they are on my phone. That makes me feel better!
Still, I took a couple of pictures of the girls yesterday. This is what I find them doing about 90% of the time.
Quietly playing together, inventing some sort of "game" with their barbies (or Polly Pockets or dolls or stuffed animals). What a blessing it is (and one that I freely admit that I take for granted) that they absolutely love to play together.
I have asked a couple of my friends who have one child what it's like after school or on the weekend. The dynamics in their houses are just completely different. I don't know if I would know how to "play" anymore. I haven't had to entertain anyone since 2006 :) Anyway, these girls are a blessing to us and to each other. I hope they are always this close.
In other news, we have had an interesting couple of days with homework. L is finally having to put some thought into her math work. She is used to being able to complete any assignment with little to no effort on her part. School just comes easy to her, and always has.
So it has been "fun" trying to get her to stop and actually think through a math problem before attempting it. She's having to learn some study skills which isn't a bad thing at all!
And if I can brag for a minute, her teacher told me something surprising today. I know L is a good reader. Again, she always has been. But apparently the kids took some sort of test and it showed that she is actually reading on a 5th grade level. 5th grade, 4th month to be specific, so she's pretty much on her way to 6th grade level before the end of this school year.
So just like I've always assumed...her dad and I are probably going to cap out around the end of 3rd grade and won't be able to help her anymore because at that point she will be smarter than us.
And not to be left out, Allie is doing pretty great herself. She went from 75% mastery of her reading at the beginning of the year to 95% mastery this last report card. I am seeing enormous improvement in her confidence and she actually enjoys sitting down to read books. She won the "Character Champion" award this six weeks, which made us unbelievably proud. She's growing up too fast, but she's having fun doing it so I can't complain!
I'll work on getting some pictures off my phone and hopefully will blog again soon!
