Pioneer Playground

Today we visited a really fun museum called Log Cabin Village that isn't too far from where we live. I really love visiting historical museums like this...I try to picture the people who actually lived like this and am amazed at how incredibly strong and resilient they must have been! I can't imagine spending a day in a log cabin, let alone a lifetime! It's so neat to stand in a room and realize that you are standing in the exact same place a family from the 1800's lived and raised their children (sometimes as many as NINE kids in a one-room house). Amazing.

The kids had a great time, especially when armed with their official rock candy souvenirs. I couldn't resist, and they didn't object! And, as always, it's a super fun time when we get to hang out with our friends Ethan and Rachel!

Just one of the many original homes that were moved to the site from various locations around East Texas...a family in the mid-1800s actually lived in this VERY house. I just can't wrap my head around it!

A typical one-room schoolhouse (also authentic)...Lauryn was the teacher!

How cool is this desk and the ORIGINAL wood floor!?!

Check this out...seriously?!

I'm pretty sure this one would have broken more than one of those rules.

Look! It's my very own little Mary Ingalls!

And her little sister, Laura!

I'm fairly certain Laura Ingalls never owned a pair of sweet silver ballet flats. The kids loved the interactive cabin where they were able to dress up and were allowed to touch everything in the room! It was a really fun day and something we've never done before, which made it even more exciting. We're loving this time together...I don't think I'm going to be ready for school to start again!
